

Blossom
Narrative Designer
Blossom is an interactive novel featuring a pop-up book controller that follows the life of a young Asian-American woman as processes the labels that others assigned to her growing up. The game is an exploration of childhood and how the way others see us shapes the way we see ourselves.

The game was featured as part of Alt.Ctrl.GDC at the Game Developers Conference in 2023 and at the USC Games Expo in 2023.

As Narrative Designer, my role included:

Developing and editing scripts for the scenes focusing on mental health, including Aspen's struggles with anxiety and attending therapy

Integrating mental health principles and the director's personal experiences to tell a personal yet universally appealing story

Co-designing tactile mechanics to accompany major story beats, especially the heartbeat mechanics of Chapter 2 and the "sense-making" mechanics of Chapter 4

Directing voiceover sessions and providing feedback to voice actors to capture the sensitivity and nuance of the script.
